Hiding in the Cellar

Bitter is the taste of every drop and every grape
From which you make the darkest wine in the cellars of your pain
Loneliness is your choice yet you choose to inebriate
Yourself
Dulling your own suffering gets harder by the day
All the bottles in the world won’t be enough to take away
That old longing for past glories you have fed and still sustain
You have fed and you still sustain
And you choose to inebriate yourself
No, no-one sees
through your eyes
Through that mist
Of your own self-induced oblivion
Your numbing redemption
Every feeling triggers your desire to escape
You can’t stand the thought of going
Through yet another day
The bottom of a bottle is your only safe place
Bitter is the taste of every drop and every grape
From which you make the darkest wine in the cellars of your pain
Loneliness is your choice yet you choose to inebriate
Yourself
It’s your only safe place
Yet you choose to inebriate yourself
No, no-one sees
through your eyes
Through that mist
Of your own self-induced oblivion
Your numbing redemption

Adrift

Beneath the waves I drift and make my home
under black skies I sink and wander alone
as foam floats by the light evades the deep
we all must drown in neverending seas
as strong currents drag us all in their wake
we grasp for air and witness our minds fade
houses we build of brittle empty shells
shall too, in time, be dragged to seas profound
close to the shore and feeling sunny warmth
a child begins his path toward the ocean´s floor
he swims, he smiles unknowingly he goes
but abysmal trenches always under him lurk
youth goes by, though unaware he is
inevitably all dives he takes he’ll miss
for no matter how curious he may be
there are secret depths we can never survey

Uses of Time

Born into the maelstrom
We clutch at straws to findo some order
From our first cries to our last breath
Pushing away every sort of
Uneasy qualms ´bout existence
“What is it all for? This can’t be all!”
Let’s assign meaning to our tasks
So life is merely practical
Take your time
In the end it will be fine
Well, actually, maybe not
How can you tell what fate has got
In store for you
What do you know? What can you do?
But live your life and seize the day
Tomorrow never comes, that’s what they say
As we age, we learn to silence
Our anxieties by keeping
Busy, so our minds can’t find the space
To let deep-seated doubts grow
When we last close our eyes
Do we finally realise
Chasing our own tails got us nowhere
And now it’s time to go?

Unrest

Dreams fade from memory over time
As flowers wither if not tended to
We watched our well-being bought and sold
With our personal freedoms as excuse
Meanwhile in a mansion an investor plans
Whether to buy another yacht or close a school
And they will take away your rights
before you know they're even there
'cause you' re too busy trusting lies
With canine anger and bovine stare
Rage
Simmering
To the point
We can no longer hold it back
Fratricide
They misguide
Our fury towards ourselves
Fooled by fake consensus, the people go
About their lives as if it’s all their fault
To be crushed under immeasurable debt
Financiers and heads of state laugh under their breath
